Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Description
Responsible for safely and efficiently driving, maneuvering, and controlling various types of heavy equipment, including Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, Dump Trucks, Backhoes, Trommels, Forklifts, Water Truck, etc. Responsible for inspecting equipment before and after use, load and unload cargo, move large pallets of inventory from one area to another and maintain records. When necessary, perform routine maintenance on the equipment or recommend they be sent out for repairs. Equipment operators must always follow company and governmental safety guidelines.

- Follow oral and written directions.
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks and trailers and remain vigilant of conditions surrounding the use of equipment.
- Recognize and take necessary precautions against hazardous driving conditions.
- Drive in a smooth, careful, and safe manner.
- Detect motor trouble and take prompt precautions to avoid breakdowns and damage to equipment and cargo.
- Properly load and unload equipment and when necessary to direct helpers.
- Load, secure, and unload heavy equipment, ensuring proper weight distribution and adherence to safety regulations.
- Thoroughly inspect vehicles and equipment before and after each operation to identify potential issues.
- Maintain logs of mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents encountered during operation.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies, including DOT guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding equipment operations.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance tasks as needed.
- Make adjustments and emergency repairs to equipment operated.
- Familiar working with signalers, two-way radios and hand signals.
