Microbial Crew Chief Apprentice

Participation in regular on-the-job training to become Crew Chief. Working under the supervision of a fully qualified Crew Chief, learning, practicing, and earning trust to administer various aspects of the role.  Over time, developing their skills and knowledge to obtain various heavy equipment credentials and certifications. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Engage in the education and training programs necessary to obtain necessary OSHA credentials to become a Crew Chief.
  • Follows written and verbal instruction from Crew Chief. Performs additional tasks as required.
  • Prepares inoculation site as directed by Crew Chief.
  • Load, unload, prepare and cleanup of job site, materials, and tools.
  • Check organic mass treatment areas for proper saturation and corrects moisture conditions which could affect job quality.
  • Set up and work on equipment used on projects.
  • Performs equipment care, maintenance and repair procedures as directed by Crew Chief.
  • Assists in microbial inoculation equipment monitoring, hose handling and other tasks.
  • Perform health and safety procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a commercial driver license (CDL) valid for the operation of any combination of heavy equipment preferred, but not necessary.
  • OSHA Credentials preferred, but not necessary.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Possess mechanical abilities to perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Familiar with the use of hand, power and hydraulic tools.
Skills & Physical Demands of Job
  • Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required objects over 50 pounds.
Work Situation Factors
  • May work non-traditional hours and may spend additional time before or during their shift preparing equipment for the next use.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Outdoor exposure to extreme weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain or dust.
  • Prolonged exposure to noise and vibrations.
  • Candidates who impress supervisors with their abilities may transition to receive advanced crew chief training.
Requirements
  • Wear proper PPE safety gear including steel toe boots (not supplied).
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam.
  • Be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Submit to post-.offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Microbial Inoculation Crew Chief

Possessing strong technical skills and equipment certifications, the Crew Chief has supervisory responsibilities of a crew to ensure project completion and quality control assurance.  Is responsible for coordinating the activities of their crew, helping in their understanding of the entire inoculation process, and acts as the primary point of contact for the team. Maintains accurate records, prepares reports, and ensures proper documentation of work performed. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Has the necessary OSHA credentials.
  • Has extended responsibilities that include supervising the inoculation process on the jobsite in relation to safety, pace, equipment operation, quality of the work being performed, client relations, and project documentation, etc.
  • Has a solid knowledge of the entire inoculation process and performs tasks relating to green waste preliminary readings, microbial saturation standards, safety and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Monitors microbial inoculation operations and related equipment functions and performance, along with care, maintenance, and repair procedures.
  • Operates and maintains various types of equipment such as generators, hoses, water cannons, etc. used in microbial inoculation services.
  • Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and the appropriate precautionary measures that should be taken.
  • Is competent to carry out the GWT microbial inoculation process in various types of conditions and weather and performs skilled application as required by the assigned project.
  • Perform tasks relating to organic material/green waste preparation (such as meter readings and data collection) and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure proper inoculation of microbial solutions.
  • Performs tasks relating to microbial inoculation preparations and applies solutions through various spraying techniques.
  • Monitors inoculation operations and related equipment functions and performance, along with care, maintenance, and repair procedures.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, tools and other equipment are maintained.
  • Implements and monitors health and safety procedures.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards and regulations is crucial.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a commercial driver license (CDL) valid for the operation of any combination of heavy equipment.
  • One year of experience (within the last ten years) in operating heavy compound transmission motor truck tractors with semitrailer or heavy motor truck and trailer equipment.
  • OSHA Credentials preferred.
